T
his is a Large Antique Georgian Rectangular Solid Silver Vinaigrette. It is very decorative and has a pretty engraved leaf pattern on the top of the lid with an engraved border around the edge and then a larger leaf pattern on the base again with the engraved pattern around the border. It has a very pretty flower and leaf gilt grille and a gilt interior. It does have an engraved cartouche which has fancy letters which reads (I think as the letters are very fancy) "From AFC to GS 1820". I have to emphasise that this is a large and slim vinaigrette and although the hallmarks have not come out very clear in the photographs they are quite clear and can easily be read.
Silver2treasure offer for sale this very large Georgian Solid Silver Mustard Pot which comes complete with a Matched Solid Silver Mustard Spoon. The mustard is of a boat shape with a gadrooned pattern running around the top rim. It has a shell shape thumbnail a decorative finial and it stands on 4 ball feet. It has a gilt interior and comes complete with its original blue glass liner which has a cut out recess in the rim for the spoon. The matched spoon is fully hallmarked and has an engraved armorial on the handle but this is a little worn but it is of a gloved hand holding some flowers. It carries hallmarks for London as does the spoon. The Mustard is dated 1813 and the spoon 1810. The makers marks on the mustard are very rubbed and I cannot make them out. The Spoon is RC GS (Richard Crossley & George Smith). The Mustard is 4.25 inches long (including the handle), 2.25 inches wide and 3.25 inches tall. The Spoon is 4.25 inches long, the bowl 1.25 inches long and 0.75 inch wide. The Mustard weighs 127g (without the liner) and the Spoon weighs 13g.
