Sauce Boats as the name suggest were created to contain rich sauces and gravy to flavour food served at the table. The first silver sauce boats can be traced back to the early 1700's.

Over the centuries their popularity has varied with the fashions of the day. Sauce Boats often come in pairs or even groups of four or six for large dinner services. Design and decorations have also changed from the plain utility pieces of the early 1700's to the elaborate ornate Rococo styles.

Sauce Boats remain high on collectors lists as they still have a valuable place on the dining table today.
