Antique Silver Salvers developed from the early 1600's and were primarily used to serve food or drinks. Salvers commonly are circular in shape. Oval or square salvers tend to be rarer.

Salvers are often finely decorated and were often displayed on sideboards as a indication of wealth. Small salvers, below 6 inches in diameter are called waiters. These smaller trays were used by serving staff to carry calling cards or messages to present to the master of the house, hence the name waiter.

Salvers usually are supported on hoof, paw or pad feet. Where a salver has a stem or pedestal base it is normally referred to as a Tazza.

Salvers are very useable and collectable items.
