Although tea became widely available in Europe from the mid 1650's onwards it was Coffee that became popular and more fashionable. Coffee began arriving in Europe from the near East by the Venetians and it quickly gained popularity as a breakfast drink.

The first Coffee House started to appear in London around 1652 and soon attracted all classes of society. Chocolate also became fashionable as a drink and soon coffee and chocolate pots were seen in many households.

Cafe au lait, chocolate and coffee pots have all been the subject of fashion and styles. Coffee Pots are much more frequently found in Britain as chocolate preparation was very tedious. Coffee Pots remain very collectable today.
